CPI(M) told to clarifystand on abduction case

Chennithala says women security has become non-existent

Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has asked the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leadership to clarify whether the positions adopted by two of its legislators and a Member of Parliament in the case related to the abduction of a female actor were the official line of the party.

In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Chennithala said that under the LDF rule, women security had become virtually non-existent. The police seemed to be on the side of the hounds as could be seen from the numerous cases related to women and child issues that hit the headlines in recent times.

The positions adopted by the MP and MLAs should be read along with this development as they happened to be people’s representatives and not mere actors.

The abduction case had acquired a queer pitch, as a result of which the police and the government had the onus to convince the general public about the factual position in the matter. The investigation into the abduction case went off the track following the remarks of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

When an investigation was going on, it was improper for the Chief Minister, who holds the Home portfolio, or any other minister to make such remarks. The disclosure of the former State Police Chief that the head of the special investigation team was in the dark about the probe had given another dimension to the case.
