The Supreme Court’s censure of the CBI has only vindicated the CPI(M)’s stand regarding the central investigation agency, according to the CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
Speaking at the ninth death anniversary of CPI (M) leader and former Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar, at his memorial column at Payyambalam here on Sunday, Mr. Vijayan, in a reference to the Fazal murder case, said that the CPI (M) had marched to the CBI office at Ernakulam protesting against a CBI report which had wrongly implicated many CPI (M) workers and had referred to the party as one which was trying to create communal upheaval.
The media was largely silent about the servitude of the probing agency to its political masters in connection with the case. This apathy by the media had led to the current situation of the CBI, Mr. Vijayan said.
The media also ignored the protest by the CPI (M) then, he said, adding that many biased media groups were in connivance with the opponents of the CPI (M) who were constantly trying to bring about its destruction.
This was a vain effort which the party would strongly oppose, Mr. Vijayan said. Mr. Vijayan said that on many occasions of such attacks on the party by its opponents and the media, Nayanar’s responses were remembered and longed for.
He offered tributes at the memorial. CPI (M) leader M.V. Govindan presided. Sharada, wife of Nayanar, CPI (M) leaders P. Jayarajan, M.V. Jayarajan, K.P. Sahadevan and P.K. Sreemathy, MLAs, James Mathew, K.K. Narayanan were present.
