CPI(M) Polit Bureau asks Chandy to quit

July 21, 2013 11:25 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:55 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has reiterated its demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for his alleged links with the solar scam.

In a statement issued here after a Polit Bureau meeting, the party said the solar scam in Kerala was not an ordinary case of fraud and cheating. The involvement of some of the staff in the Chief Minister’s office with the scamsters had come out; one of whom had been arrested.

“The links of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy with this affair have also surfaced. The LDF has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and a judicial inquiry in the light of this exposure,” it said, condemning the police action against the protesters.

On panchayat elections in West Bengal, the Polit Bureau said the State was witnessing a brazen and massive attack on democracy. “Till now, three phases of the panchayat elections have been held. These polls have been marred by large-scale booth capturing, false voting, blockade of villages, and violent attacks on Opposition candidates and their polling agents,” the Polit Bureau said.
