Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Wednesday that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) should apologise to the people for its demonstration before the Kerala High Court on Monday.
“Why did the party launch an agitation when its appeal was pending before the Supreme Court,” Mr. Chandy asked while speaking to the media after a meeting of the Cabinet.
Mr. Chandy said that he was, however, happy that the demonstration over the jailing of party leader M.V. Jayarajan on charges of contempt of court was peaceful.
The Chief Minister said the CPI(M) took diametrically opposite stands depending on the decisions of courts. If the decisions are favourable like the decision on Mr. Jayarajan's appeal petition, the CPI(M) lauds the courts. When court orders go against the party or its leaders, it launches agitations against the courts. Public men should avoid bringing the judiciary to ridicule.
Moral policing
Referring to the killing of Shahid Bava at Kodiyathur, Mr. Chandy said the government would not tolerate moral policing. There was the rule of law in the State and none would be allowed to take the law into their hands. He said that there were so far no reports of extremist links to the murder.
