The much-awaited report of the party-level inquiry conducted by the CPI(M) into Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan’s murder on May 4, 2012, has concluded that the only person responsible for the murder was CPI(M) Kunnummakkara local committee member K.C. Ramachandran.
RMP flays decisionThe party has decided to expel him from its primary membership based on the finding, which has come in for sharp criticism from the RMP leadership.
A press note announcing the decision to expel Ramachandran here on Thursday said the party-level investigation, conducted under the supervision of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau, had found that Chandrasekharan’s murder was the result of Ramachandran’s personal enmity towards the RMP leader.
The party’s State-district-local leadership had no knowledge about the murder, nor was it involved in any planning. ‘Intense hostilities between CPI(M) and RMP workers were on the rise in the locality following disciplinary action against Chandrasekharan. Following this, Ramachandran was involved in several cases and once even went behind bars. Ramachandran used to survive on petty contract work and there were allegations that Chandrasekharan used to obstruct works taken up by him. Under the circumstances, T.P. Chandrasekharan’s murder was the outcome of personal enmity,’ the press release said. The findings of the inquiry were communicated to the party State committee by CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat. According to party sources, the decision to publicise the contents of the inquiry report was taken in the face of strong opposition from many in the official faction.

The finding that Ramachandran’s personal enmity towards Chandrasekharan was the motive for the murder a ‘total hogwash’ that contradicted the findings of the trial court, which had clearly stated that the murder was owing to political animosity.
CPI(M) attemptThe CPI(M) leadership’s attempt, she said, was to challenge the court verdict. “If it was personal enmity, why did the court find P.K. Kunhanandan and Trouser Manojan guilty of conspiring with the killers,” she asked. She also questioned the honesty of the CPI(M) leadership who, she said, had engaged lawyers paying hefty fees for defending the accused.
“They are still shielding the criminals. Polit Bureau members are visiting and consoling the convicts in prison. The party would certainly have to explain all this to people, Ms. Rema said.
