Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony has alleged that the killing of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P. Chandrasekharan took place with the knowledge of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leadership.

Addressing a meet-the-press programme ‘Dilli Chalo’ organised by the Calicut Press Club here on Tuesday, Mr. Antony said the celebration by the leaders of the CPI(M) when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) declined to investigate the conspiracy angle in the case as sought by the State government revealed their involvement. “Do you need any other circumstantial evidence for the involvement of that party,” he said.

“The CPI(M) leaders want to hide something. That is why they are opposing tooth and nail the CBI probe. Now, they are rejoicing. But that will be short-lived. The chapter has not closed. The truth will come out one day,” he said.

Mr. Antony demanded that Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, known for his outspoken ways, break his silence on the issue. The people of the State wanted to know whether he stood by a letter written to the government seeking a CBI probe into the conspiracy. “Is he going to write again to the State government and the Centre at this juncture?” Mr. Antony asked.

The people of the State were not fools to believe that some local leaders plotted with a group of killers to butcher Chandrasekharan for some gains. The CPI(M) was scared of a CBI probe because its leaders would be caught. The letter of Mr. Achuthanandan was a credible evidence in the conspiracy angle, Mr. Antony said.
