Veteran teachers’ trade unionist and CPI(M) leader Rasheed Kanichery died at his residence at Kadangod near here early on Saturday. He was 67.
An active member of the CPI(M) in the district after his retirement from government service, Mr. Rasheed had been suffering from kidney ailments for a long time. A member of the Pudussery area committee of the party, he was engaged in Palakkad’s socio-cultural and literary life. He also contributed immensely in building the library movement in the district. As the general secretary of the Kerala State Teachers’ Association for long, Mr. Rasheed led a number of teachers’ agitations demanding better wok environment and pay packages. He is survived by wife Nabeesa, son Nithin Kanichery (DYFI national executive member and Palakkad district panchayat member), daughter Ninitha Kanichery, daughter-in-law Sreeja and son-in-law M.B Rajesh, MP.
