BJP national secretary P.K. Krishnadas has said that the State unit of the CPI(M) should make its stand clear on the party general secretary Prakash Karat’s remark in a recent interview that the party was not averse to supporting a Congress-led government at the Centre to prevent the BJP from coming to power.
Talking at a meet-the-leader programme organised by the Calicut Press Club here on Wednesday, Mr. Krishnadas said that Mr. Karat’s comment was a clear indication that the Congress and the CPI (M) have already entered into an alliance to keep BJP from coming into power at the Centre.
“The upcoming election has already become a fight between the BJP and those who oppose it,” he said.
Urging the KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran also to make his stand clear on Mr. Karat’s comments, the BJP leader questioned why the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led LDF were fielding separate candidates if both the parties were to join hands after the election to keep the BJP out of power.
“These parties should show at least some degree of political honesty and field their candidates jointly in this election,” he said.
Stating that the Congress leaders were behaving as if they had already lost the election, Mr. Krishnadas said that the fight now was only for the second position, to decide who would be the main Opposition party at the Centre. Expressing confidence, as usual, that the party would open its account in the State with this election, he said that the political equations in the State would undergo a major change in the State after the election.
On KejriwalMr. Krishnadas, who termed AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal as an ‘adopted son’ of the Congress, maintained that the candidature of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in two constituencies, Varanasi and Vadodara, was only part of a political strategy and not out of fear of losing either one. He also said that Mr. Modi would visit the State to campaign in the election. “However, it is yet to be finalised on which constituencies he would campaign,” he said.
