A building that houses a local library controlled by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) at Bavode under the Chakkarakkal police station limits was damaged in a bomb attack in the early hours of Friday.

Party workers alleged that the two-storey building, which also functions as the branch office of the CPI(M), was attacked by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers. The police said the attack took place at 3 a.m. The culprits broke open the door of the building and ransacked the office, said party workers. Furniture in the building was destroyed in the attack. The windowpanes were also destroyed in the blast.

The police bomb disposal squad and dog squad examined the spot. The area had been tense over following clashes between CPI(M) and RSS workers.
