Communist Party of India (CPI) MLA E.S. Bijimol on Friday allegedly assaulted Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Moncy P. Alexander on a private estate at Thekkemoola, near Peruvanthanam, where he had gone to implement a High Court order to maintain status quo on a complaint filed by the estate company.

Earlier, acting on a complaint filed by a resident that the company had erected a gate and barred public movement on the road, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) had directed the RDO to open the road. A team of officials had visited the spot and broken open the gate.

The company later moved court and secured an order to maintain status quo.

The ADM, along with police officers, reached the spot at 11 a.m. on Friday to implement the High Court order.

A group of people had already assembled at the estate gate by then. Ms. Bijimol allegedly had a heated argument with the ADM and assaulted him.

ADM under treatment

The ADM, who is undergoing treatment at the Taluk Hospital, Kanjirappally, said he was assaulted without any provocation on his part.

He said other political party workers had also assembled at the spot, but it was only Ms Bijimol who had assaulted him.

Case registered

A police case was registered against Ms. Bijimol and others on the charge of preventing the ADM from discharging his duty and attacking him, said Superintendent of Police K,V. Joseph.

The ADM said he would give a report to the court about the incident.
