The change of stand of the BJP in favour of the Aranmula Airport company has once again exposed its pro-corporate agenda, CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran, has alleged.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Rajendran alleged that the BJP which was part of the anti-airport agitation earlier, has sidelined the self-esteem of the people of Aranmula and their protests after coming to power at the Centre.
To oppose project
The CPI leader said there was no question of permitting construction of the proposed airport after converting the paddy land and wetland in Aranmula.
The people of Aranmula will oppose the project tooth and nail and the LDF would oppose it, he said.
Mr Rajendran said it was condemnable and unjust on the part of the Centre to sideline the orders of the National Green Tribunal as well as the Supreme Court of India rejecting the Aranmula airport project proposal and permit a fresh study on the same.
The people of Kerala are wise enough to understand the hidden motives behind the granting of permission for conducting a fresh study, Mr. Rajendran said.
He said the CPI and the LDF were in the forefront of the popular agitation in Aranmula, ever since the government started violating the laws in the name of the airport project.
Meanwhile, the LDF staged a march in Aranmula, protesting against the expert panel nod for conducting a fresh environment impact assessment for the proposed KGS Aranmula Airport project.
A.P.Jayan, CPI district secretary; R.Ajyakumar, District Panchayat member; A.Padmakumar, CPI(M) secretariat member; K.I.Joseph, CPI(ML-Red Flag) district secretary; Valsamma Mathew, and Saratchandrakumar, CPI district leaders, led the march.
