The State secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has resolved to ensure that there is no change in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s decision to take over the Halcyon Castle and the land on which it is situated.
The party secretariat, which met here on Friday, asked the government to desist from its move to ‘give away’ historical monuments and related landed assets to private interests.
The government should protect Kerala’s public assets. The government should end its game of hide-and-seek on the issue, it said.
Party State secretary Pannian Ravindran, national council members C. Divakaran, MLA, K.E. Ismail, Kanam Rajendran, and State assistant secretaries C.N. Chandran and K. Prakash Babu attended the meeting.
Earlier in the day, the district council of the party staged a Secretariat march demanding reversal of what it termed the United Democratic Front (UDF) government’s move to grant lease rights over the palace and its land to Ravi Pillai Group. Mr. Divakaran inaugurated the march.
The march, which began from the Martyrs’ Column, ended in a dharna before the Secretariat. Scores of party workers participated in the march and the dharna.
