The sense to indentify mistakes and make amends is defunct in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M], SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has said.
The time to make corrections was fast running out but the leaders of the CPI(M) seemed to be averse to it, he said at a function organised by the Kollam SNDP Union on Sunday to felicitate him on getting reelected as secretary of the SN Trusts.
It was the backward communities, Ezhavas included, which were instrumental in the growth of the Communist parties in the State. But, the CPI(M) now failed to understand the sentiments of the backward communities, Mr. Natesan said.
The SNDP came into existence years before the Communist parties could take roots in the State. It was the Ezhavas who gave space for the growth of the Communist parties. In spite of such a history, the CPI(M) was trying to destroy these communities, he said. Instead of analysing the real reasons behind the vote drain from the backward communities, the party leaders were engaged in taking revenge on the backward communities. During the five-year Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule, the Ezhava community was completely ignored. The community was highly indebted to the Chief Minister and the Congress for all the help received, he said.
CPI(M) leader M.A. Baby was under the wrong impression that his resigning as MLA would solve all problems, he said.
“There appears to be some strategy behind the resignation talk. M.A. Govindan is a person who is blissfully oblivious of the SNDP Yogam,” Mr. Natesan said.
N.K. Premachandran, MP, and the new office-bearers of SN Trusts were also honoured.
