A container train derailed at the Vallathol Nagar Railway Station at Cheruthuruthy, near here, on Saturday around 3 p.m.
This delayed rail services on the route for several hours. The services were partially restored around 7 p.m.
At Vettikkattiri
The ninth, 10th and 11th bogies of the container train that was running from Edappally on the Coimbatore route got derailed at Vettikkattiri near Cheruthuruthy.
Anas, a native of Vettikkattiri, spotted the ruptured track and brought it to the notice of the loco pilot of the train.
Authorities alerted
The station master of the Vallathol Nagar station alerted higher authorities.
Railway squads from Thrissur, Shoranur and Palakkad rushed to the spot and examined the train and track.
Many trains, including Mangala Lakshadweep Express, were detained at the Thrissur railway station for a few hours. Repair work on the track is being done.
