Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday alleged that the attack on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was carried out by Congress worker Kunhu Mohammed.
He was responding to queries from mediapersons at the Ernakulam guest house. Mr. Vijayan said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had nothing to do with the attack on the Chief Minister.
No role
“We had clarified that the LDF had no role. Now it has been proved that it was the handiwork of Congress workers,” he said.
Mr. Vijayan called for stern measures against those who indulged in such attacks. He said it was part of the handiwork of the Congress State leadership.
DYFI charge
Special Correspondent writes from Thiruvananthapuram:
The DYFI State committee on Wednesday accused Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of having misled the people about the identity of the person who had thrown the stone that hit him.
In a statement here, the DYFI leadership said reports showed that the person who had hurled stones at the Chief Minister was a Congressman.
It had become clear that the stone-throwing incident was enacted with the involvement of the Chief Minister.
The person, who had been identified, was involved in several criminal cases, it noted.
The DYFI State committee said the attempt clearly was to create a sympathy wave so that the Chief Minister, who was in the dock in several cases, could escape public ire.
The police too were guilty of having created a mood of sympathy for the Chief Minister by not taking adequate measures to provide him safety in spite of Intelligence reports that Congressmen could infiltrate the ranks of the Opposition activists and create trouble.
Those who had sought to blame the DYFI for the attack on the Chief Minister should clarify their stance now.
The police should also put an immediate stop to hounding of DYFI activists and arrest the persons who had actually indulged in violence in Kannur, the DYFI leadership said in the statement.
