Congress has alleged that the State government has violated the model code of conduct for elections. It will approach the Election Commission on the issue.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said at a press conference here on Sunday that the Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan has made announcements at Koratty and Kannur on the government programmes in the IT sector, which promised employment to the youth.

The government is forbidden to make any new announcement, which will be an inducement to the voters, after the elections are declared. The Chief Minister’s statement amounted to gross violation of model code of conduct in the wake of the forthcoming by-elections to the State Assembly, he said. His party will submit its petition on the issue to the Election Commission, he added.

He also alleged that the government machinery was being misused blatantly to manipulate the voters’ list. The party has already taken the issue for the consideration of the Election commission. It will approach the Commission once again to seek action. He also urged the Union government to take up the issue seriously.

Asked about the party nominees for the by-elections, he said discussions were in progress and the names might be announced on Monday or Tuesday.
