Cong. president in LDF majority panchayat

August 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:28 am IST - KOLLAM:

Though the LDF enjoys majority with 10 members in the 17-member committee of the Kunnathur grama panchayat, the president’s post was wrested from the LDF by the Congress. Two members of the CPI stayed away from the election and the lone BJP member supported the Congress enabling INTUC district vice president Kunnathoor Prasad to become the new president of the panchayat.

The CPI members who abstained included the panchayat vice president Sathi Udayakumar. In Wednesday’s election to the president’s post, the Congress candidate got eight votes and the LDF candidate seven votes.
