Transport Minister Thomas Chandy who is mired in allegations of encroachment on government land and reclamation of backwaters in Alappuzha seems to be pulling out all the stops in fighting cases against him at the Kerala High Court.

Mr. Chandy has engaged Vivek Tankha, Congress MP and senior Supreme Court lawyer, to defend him in the High Court.

Mr. Tankha will appear before a Division Bench of the High Court on November 14.

Besides Mr. Chandy’s petition challenging the Alappuzha District Collector’s report against him, the public interest writ petitions seeking action against him for reclaiming the backwaters and encroachment will be taken up for hearing on Tuesday.

In his petition, the Minister said the allegations had been levelled with “malicious political intentions” to target him.
