Competitions aplenty for Coir Kerala 2015

: A series of competitions will be organised on the sidelines of Coir Kerala 2015 from February 1 to 5.

According to a press release issued here, essay writing competitions in English and Malayalam on the subject ‘Mechanisation in the coir sector: challenges and opportunities’ will be open to all. Submissions should be 10-15 pages long.

A photography competition that focuses on the coir industry will also be organised.

Three copies of the high-resolution photographs, sized 18 inch X 12 inch should be submitted, along with a caption and the photographer’s name.

There will also be a drawing competition, exclusively for school students of lower primary, upper primary and high school on February 3. Winners of the three categories will get Rs 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 respectively.

Various skill and cultural competitions will also be held for coir workers and students as part of the main event.

Coir yarn-making competition for adults and students, aged below 15 years, of Vaikom Coir unit and Arattupuzha Coir unit will be held at Cherthala and Haripad, respectively, on February 4.

Moreover, while the competitions for coir yarn making using machines will be held at the Kanichukulangara unit of the Coir Corporation on February 3 that of electronic spinning wheel will be at Kerala State Coir Machinery Manufacturing Company Ltd. premises at Alappuzha on February 2.
