The colleges from Ernakulam under the Mahatma Gandhi University, including Maharaja’s College, St. Theresa’s College and RLV College, Tripunithura, have begun their fight for the trophy at the university youth festival that got under way here on Thursday.

The inordinate delay in commencing various competitions created trouble for the organisers. Since the inaugural ceremony went on till early hours of Friday, the ‘Thiruvathirakali’ competitions were delayed for nearly two hours. Around 100 odd participants had to wait for the inaugural ceremony to be over. Mono-act competition, in which contemporary social issues such as ‘Kiss of Love’ protests were selected by the contestants, had more that 60 participants.

Meanwhile, anti-socials created trouble at the main venue at Thirunakkara when two gangs in an inebriated stage came to blows. They were removed by the police.
