District Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir held an adalat at the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe colony at Ujampadi in Delampadi village in the district in a bid to address the decades-old grievances of the people.
Mr. Sagir was accompanied by senior district officials.
Poor houses
The people told Mr. Sagir that they did not have decent houses to live in, had no power connections, and faced an acute drinking water shortage. Some of them had no ration cards and they received no old-age pension as SC/ST people in other localities did.
Mr. Sagir directed the officials concerned to address the issues.
He promised the people that their APL ration cards would be converted into BPL by Saturday and directed the District Supply Officer to do the needful.
The Collector also promised title deeds to all deserving landless families in the colony.
Schooling
Mr. Sagir asked the colony residents to ensure that all children attended school and the colony was freed from consumption of liquor and narcotic substances.
The Collector said his visit was intended to help the people shy of travelling to the Collectorate to present their grievances before the officials.
Additional District Magistrate H. Dineshan promised to convene a review meeting at the Collectorate every month to settle their grievances.
The adalat was attended by Delampadi panchayat president M. Geetha.
