The Cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned Rs. 5 crore to Coirfed for the procurement of coir through cooperative societies.
A sum of Rs. 42 lakh was sanctioned for organizing buyer-seller meet for encouraging the sale of coir products in local markets. It also decided to earmark Rs. 4.99 crore for the conduct of Coir Kerala 2014, including Rs. 1.75 crore receivable as Central assistance.
The government will bear the expenses of five of the seven students who are selected to take part in the School Olympic Meet to be held in Brussels. The other two are currently undergoing training under the Sports Authority of India which will bear their expenses for attending the meet. Each student will require about Rs. 2.5 lakh.
The Cabinet has decided to amend the building tax laws to exempt chicken, pig and cattle farms from paying building tax. It has sanctioned Rs. 1.60 crore for 13 local self-governments to undertake cleaning and other services during the Sabarimala pilgrim season. A sum of Rs 1.10 crore was sanctioned for giving subsidised food at the police mess at Sabarimala and Rs. 75 lakh towards payment of travel and daily allowance to doctors posted for duty at Sabarimala.
A sum of Rs. 1 lakh will be given to five-year-old Nikhil Ramakrishnan, student of Loyola School (UKG) here, who won the Asian School Chess Championship, held in Colombo. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy congratulated him for the victory.
