Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that efforts are on by anti-social groups to isolate the Dalit community from the social mainstream.

Inaugurating the Anandatheertha Smaraka Mandiram here on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that the Varkala incident (the murder of an aged morning walker by members of a Dalit group suspected of having

extremist elements) betrayed a clear move to encourage a retrogressive political activity in the State, he said calling on the people to nip in the bud such reactionary trends.

Recalling the struggles of Gandhiji and Sree Narayana Guru for social justice, Mr. Achuthanandan said that hostility among different castes and religions was on the increase today.

Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust president Swami Prakasananda presided over the function.
