Circle inspectors will be appointed as station house officers at 196 police stations.

The Cabinet, which met here on Thursday, decided to have circle inspectors as SHOs in all the 471 stations in phases. At present, only eight stations have CIs as SHOs and Sub-Inspectors hold the post at the remaining stations. The appointment of CIs in the post is expected to improve the quality of functioning of the stations.

As many as 357 police stations have two Sub-Inspectors, of which 302 officers are drawing a salary equivalent to or more than that of Circle Inspectors.

No financial burden

Such officers could be promoted without incurring any additional financial burden to the government. Officers would be redeployed to 13 stations that have only one SI.

Solar park

The Cabinet decided to sub lease 250 acres to the Renewable Power Corporation of Kerala at Hosdurg in Kasaragod for setting up a solar park. The ownership of the land will be vested with the Revenue Department. The land will be leased out on condition that it can be used only for setting up the solar park.

The Cabinet also decided to issue title deeds to farmers at Pathu Changala in Idukki who were living there for the past 40 years. It has been decided in principle to set up a sub-centre of the South Zone Culture Centre here.
