A two-day Children’s Environment Science Congress organised by M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) concluded at MSSRF Auditorium Puthurvayal on Saturday.
The event was conducted as a part of MSSRF’s initiatives to mark 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity and was proposed to cultivate science and environment stewardship among high school children of Malabar Region through a Child Scientist Award Contest.
Debates, discussions and study classes were held as part of the congress. The contest was the cynosure of the Science Congress, for which, mini-research proposals had been invited in November from five districts of North Kerala.
Laghima V. N. of St Joseph’s Anglo Indian Girls HSS, Kozhikode was awarded with Child Scientist Title for her paper on air pollution which put light on problems due to automobile exhausts in Calicut city. The title consisted of a memento, a medal and certificate.
N. Prasanth, Sub Collector, Wayanad, distributed the prizes. Prof. E. Kunhikrishnan, a notable environmentalist, was the Chairman of the Jury.
A. Ratnam, Chairman of the advisory committee of the Community Agro Biodiversity Centre, MSSRF, presided over the function and Dr N. Anil Kumar director MSSRF gave the message of the event.
