An eight-year-old singer and her team members who were campaigning for Left Democratic Front candidate Saji Cherian at Chengannur came under attack, allegedly by BJP activists, on Thursday evening.

The police said the incident occurred late evening during a roadshow by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. “The announcement vehicle in which the girl, Prarthana, and others were travelling found themselves in the midst of a roadshow by the Tripura Chief Minister. Their vehicle was blocked allegedly by BJP workers and an altercation ensued. The driver of the LDF campaign vehicle has been admitted to a hospital. We have received a complaint and a probe is on,” said a police officer.

The officer said that the girl was not injured in the melee. The driver who suffered minor injuries has been identified as Nahas of Erattupetta.

Prarthana, hailing from Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram, is a child singer prodigy who sings revolutionary songs at several venues.
