Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that he took the letter of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala ‘‘positively and seriously.’’
Talking to the media after a meeting of the Cabinet here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that if one took things positively that would bring peace of mind. Price rise was an issue that needed constant attention in the present situation. The matter was being attended to on a daily basis, he said.
Mr. Chandy recalled that he had convened a conference of managing directors of agencies involved in market intervention and had sanctioned amounts sought by them. The quantum of provision and other commodities needed had been fixed and measures were being taken to ensure quality, availability, and lower prices.
If 13 essential commodities become unavailable in any of the outlets, that would be taken seriously. The members of the Assembly had been requested to keep a watch besides the official machinery.
Solar scam
He said that discussions on the terms of references for the judicial inquiry into the solar scam were nearing completion. The terms were to be decided on the basis of suggestions from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) as well as the United Democratic front (UDF).
The government was awaiting reply from the High Court for his request for sparing the services of a sitting judge for the inquiry. All the steps taken by the previous government under similar circumstances had been taken for getting a serving judge for the inquiry.
Vice-President Hamid Ansari would be arriving here on a two-day visit on September 10. Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar would be the minister-in-waiting.
