Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Monday expressed strong reservations about party’s Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha’s appearing in Kerala High Court on Tuesday to defend Transport Minister Thomas Chandy in a case challenging a probe report against him in the sensational land and backwater encroachment issue.

Addressing newspersons here on the sidelines of his Padayorukkam jatha here, Mr. Chennithala said he would contact Congress national leader Mukul Wasnik on Monday night itself and seek quick High Command intervention to prevent Mr. Tankha, who is also a senior Supreme Court lawyer, from appearing in High Court on behalf of Mr. Chandy.

“We will not allow it to happen. The Congress MP must desist from such an action that would cause disrepute to the party,” he said.
