Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has opposed the State government’s move to give prime land in urban areas in the State to Marxist-controlled societies and organisations.
Addressing a function organised by the Indian National Trade Union Congress here on the occasion of its 63rd anniversary on Monday, Mr. Chennithala said the State government had allotted prime land belonging to Thiruvelpathi Spinning Mills in Kannur and Commonwealth Mill and a piece of land belonging to the Kochi corporation to such societies. “The LDF government’s liberal distribution of prime land in such a manner at the fag end of its rule smacks of corruption and highhandedness,” he said.
The KPCC chief sais the prime land, worth crores of rupees, was being handed over in the name of establishing memorials for departed Marxist leaders, but those would end up becoming huge corporate enterprises of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), he feared. Announcing his decision to stage a day-long hunger stir in Kozhikode against the move to hand over prime land belonging to the Commonwealth Trust for construction of a five-star hotel, Mr. Chennithala said the anti-labour stand of the LDF government was one of the reasons for its unpopularity.
