Solar report: Chandy for legal course

Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that he will seek legal measures to secure a copy of the report of the judicial commission on the solar scam.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Chandy said he would explore legal means to get a copy of the report submitted by the G. Sivarajan Commission.

Explanation sought

Reacting to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s stand that the report’s copy could not be given to Mr. Chandy before it was tabled in the Assembly, the former Chief Minister said the Chief Minister owed an explanation as to the reported speech by CPI(M) leader T.K. Hamza during the election campaign at Vengara disclosing purported contents in the report.

Mr. Hamza had said that six people were accused in the case, Mr. Chandy added.

Mr. Chandy said that only if he got a copy of the report would he be in a position to know the nature of the allegations, evidence and submissions of witnesses on which the government had decided to proceed against him and others.

He was not asking for the copy of the report on the presumption that it would be favourable to him. He was asking for the report to factually assess the commission’s findings, he added.

Mr. Chandy was received by Congress workers at the railway station on his arrival here in the morning to attend party programmes in the district.

District Congress president Satheeshan Pacheni, Congress leaders P. Ramakrishnan, Sony Sebastian, V.V. Purushothaman and Suresh Babu Elayavur were among those present at the station.
