Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that any decision to raise the pension age will be implemented only after taking in to confidence the young generation as the State is known for high level of educated unemployment.
Inaugurating the public meeting in connection with the State meet of the Non-Gazetted Officers Association here on Saturday, he said that there are 40 lakh people in the unemployment list and by raising the pension age, their aspirations should not be hurt. The government is all committed to protest the rights of the employed, he said adding that on November 1 onwards, Right to Service Act will come into force in the State. Modernisation and computerisation of the government offices are done with the aim to reduce the work load of the staff and timely delivery of services to the people. If the people are not getting the services in time, it will not serve the desired purpose, he said.
The participatory pension scheme was introduced not to harm anybody, he said adding that the Union government and many States have already implemented it. New schemes are introduced by the government with the aim of helping public and those categories of people for whom it is meant for, he said.
The Chief Minister delivered the inaugural address through video-conferencing. Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan formally inaugurated the function by lightening a traditional lamp.
Mr Radhakrishnan said that the government will not stand against the decision taken by the NGO Association meant for the welfare of the officers. He said that no compromise is made while delivering justice to all. He said that the political murders were handled by the officials with a stern vision to deliver justice and book the real culprits.
It is with this vision that government officers should work, he said.
Minister for Excise K. Babu, District Congress Committee president Roy K. Paulose and NGO Association State president Kottathala Mohanan also spoke at the function. The state meet will conclude on Sunday.
