Chandy in Delhi on Vizhinjam mission, to meet PM

Will seek ease in cabotage law to woo companies to the seaport project

March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:53 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday to seek relaxation in cabotage law to woo port operating companies and consortia to the Vizhinjam international multi-purpose seaport project.

The ‘Vizhinjam mission’ by the Chief Minister comes after two port operating companies and a consortium backed out of the tenders floated by Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) even after an extended deadline. Official sources said Mr. Chandy would be accompanied by Ports Minister K. Babu and top officials. The Chief Minister would also meet Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari.
