Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday filed a defamation case against Saritha S. Nair, an accused in the solar cheating cases, and Asianet News and Kairali TV for airing the defamatory contents of a letter allegedly written by Saritha.
In his complaint, the Chief Minister said the news items based on the letter and aired simultaneously by the two TV news channels would harm his reputation and his family and other near relatives and also lower his reputation among the public.
The complaint filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Ernakulam, said they released a “truncated letter (allegedly written by her while she was in judicial incarceration) wherein it is stated that she was raped by the complainant in his official residence Cliff House, Thiruvananthapuram.”
“Commonsense fails to comprehend as to how such an incident can occur in Cliff House, where the complainant is residing with his family, and several security guards,” the complaint said.
Mr. Chandy pointed out that it was beyond doubt that Saritha was “constantly hip-hopping from one version to another with oblique intentions”.
He said in his complaint that the letter was a new one drafted at the “instance of his adversaries to tarnish his image and reputation” and to ensure defeat of the Congress party in the ensuing Assembly elections. The inquiry made by him revealed that the letter had never been written by Saritha while she was in jail as claimed by her.
