Chandrasekharan murder: CPI-M, Govt colluding to hush up probe

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Congress led United Democratic Front government are trying to torpedo the progress of the probe into the sensational murder case of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T. P. Chandrasekharan by limiting the process with the arrest of a Party’s Area Committee member.

The long awaited surrender of CPI-M’s Panur Area Committee member P. K. Kunhanandan, who has been accused of masterminding the RMP leader’s murder indicated that the ongoing probe, in all probability, would not reveal the identity of the actual conspirators at the highest level, BJP State President V. Muraleedharan told a press conference here on Monday.

The BJP was forced to arrive at such an assumption in view of the past experiences wherein the CPI-M and the Congress used to reach understanding to shield each other in times of crisis faced by the respective party leaderships, he alleged.

“It is quite difficult to presume that the RMP leader’s murder was plotted by Mr. Kunhananandan alone and the BJP demands that the ongoing probe should unravel the suspected role of other senior leaders of the party,” the BJP leader said.

Accusing the Indian Union Muslim League in Kasaragod of shielding those indulging in attacks on communal lines, he said the police could not take any punitive action against the perpetrators of such crimes and that was why communal and political clashes are recurring in parts of the district.

He wondered as to why the police was unable to arrest those who had violated the army dress code by taking out marches with dresses akin to that of the Army uniform during the procession to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet earlier this year and accused the IUML of scuttling the probe into the crime.

Both the CPI-M and the Congress had not come forward to take stern action against the law breakers and this “tacit” understanding would impede the probe into the Chandrasekharan murder case too, he pointed out adding that such a “hostile” stand would invite communal discord.

To a query whether the BJP had failed in forcing the authorities to institute fresh probe into the December 1, 1999 murder of BJYM State President K. T. Jayakrishnan, the BJP leader argued that his party had tried in vain to convince the ruling parties on the mystery shrouding the murder.

He termed as baseless the reports suggesting that he had sought the opinion of Nair Service Society (NSS) before naming the candidature of senior party leader O. Rajagopal for the Neyyatinkara Assembly by-election.

Mr. Rajagopal was fielded by the party and none was involved in his selection process, he said, amid TV news reports which clearly showed him admitting that BJP had indeed taken the views of the NSS and Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Sanghom before deciding on the party candidature for the crucial by-election.
