The St George Orthodox Church, popularly known as 'Valiyapalli', at Chandanappally near here will be elevated to the status of a global pilgrimage centre soon.
The declaration of the global pilgrimage centre will be made jointly by the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, Baselius Mar Thoma Didymus-I and the Catholicos of the Armenian Orthodox Church, Aram-I of the Holy See of Cilicia, at a ceremonial function to be held at Chandanappally on Friday afternoon.
The Armenian Catholicos will be accorded a rousing reception at the Chandanappally Church on Friday afternoon.
The Malankara Metropolitan will preside over the meeting to be held at 3 p.m.
Paulose Mar Milithios, Catholicos-designate, Kuriakose Mar Cleemis, Metropolitan of the Thumpamon diocese of the Church, Gabriel Mar Gregorios Metropolitan of Thiruvananthaopuram diocese, Fr Johns
Abraham Konatt, Mr M.G.George Muthoot, George Joseph, Sabu Kuriakose, Fr Titus George and Fr John Mathews will also address the meeting.
According to the parish priest, Fr Roy M. Joy, the Chandanapaly Church was founded in 1750 and it was rebuilt twice in 1875 and 2000.
