An inquiry into the road accident at Sreerangam Valavu, near Chadayamangalam in Kollam, on Monday that claimed the lives of three women and caused injuries to 65 others found negligence of the private stage carrier the cause of the accident.

A team, led by Regional Transport Officer, Kollam, K.G. Samuel; Deputy Superintendent of Police, Punalur, Johnkutty; and Assistant Executive Engineer, KSTP, Darling Dcruz; came to the conclusion after inspecting the spot and the private and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses.

Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) officials said no mechanical defect was seen in both the vehicles.

The MVD has initiated steps to cancel the driving licence of the driver of the private bus. A special board meeting of the Road Transport Authority will be held in Kollam to cancel the permit of the private stage carriage.
