The Centre has sought a report from the State government on political murders and violence, Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has said.

“We have received complaints about political murders, violence, and a petrol bomb attack on BJP’s party office. We have sought a report and details,” the Minister told mediapersons after discussing internal security and Maoist threat to the State with top officials at the government guest house here on Wednesday.

Confirming the presence of Maoists at the tri-junction of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Mr. Ahir said security measures to deal with Maoists were discussed with Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Home Paul Antony and State Police Chief Loknath Behera.

“Pakistan is challenging us on all frontiers and Pak-sponsored terror modules are exploring all options to create unrest in the country. The police need to be on constant vigil against anti-national activities,” the Minister said. “We are holding meetings in all States and reviewing internal security,” he added.

Mr. Ahir promised funds to the State to enhance security along its 600-km shoreline. Funds would be made available to the State from the Police Modernisation Fund for purchasing more vehicles and patrol boats.

The Minister lauded the State for its good policing system.

Community policing was helpful in preventing radicalisation among the youth, he pointed out. Only 22 youths from the State were reported to have joined the extremist outfit Islamic State, Mr. Ahir said in reply to another query.

Assistant Inspector General, Police Headquarters, Rahul R. Nair; Commandant, Women’s Battalion, R. Nishanthini; I.B. Rani from the Intelligence Bureau, and senior officials were present. Later, the Union Minister called on Governor P. Sathasivam at Raj Bhavan and visited the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple.
