A four-member Central team on Friday visited Edappara Colony at Mulloorkkara, where a case of kala-azar was reported recently. They visited the district medical office and reviewed the preventive measures taken against the disease. The team also called on the infected person undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur.

The visit was on the basis of a report submitted by the government about the disease. Kala-azar, also known as black fever, has been reported for the first time in the district. The disease is spread by female sand fly. Recurrent fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, and anaemia are common symptoms of the disease.
