Central government employees, as part of a nation-wide agitation, staged a dharna at the Head Post Office complex here in the evening on Thursday to register protest against “the slander being spread by vested interests against cooperative societies, including employees cooperative societies, since the November 8 demonetisation announcement.”

Inaugurating the dharna, former MP P. Rajendran, said the Union government had made life miserable for Central government employees by freezing the deposits in the employees’ cooperative societies too.

He said the employees deposited the amount saved from their taxable income in cooperative societies.

Retired employees are unable to purchase even medicines because of the Central government freeze. Such a freeze is tantamount to challenging the right to live, he said.

“The Modi government has de facto declared a war on the common man through a series of anti-people decisions since November 8.”

Employees from India Post and the BSNL along with Central government pensioners took part in the dharna.

Leaders of the employees, C.C. Pillai, N.C. Pillai, R. Aravindakshan Nair, A.M. Nair, and Mathews Mathew among others led the dharna.
