A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported to have declined to accede to the State government's demand for a fresh probe into the conspiracy angle involved in the murder of Revolutinary Marxist Party leader T. P. Chandrasekharan in May 2012, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president V. M. Sudheeran said that the agency’s stand cannot be termed as a setback for the UDF prospects in the Lok Sabha elections.
The government still sticks to its demand for a CBI probe to unravel the alleged conspiracy angle involved in the murder and the fresh development would not affect the prospects of UDF in the April 10 Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Sudheeran said.
No one could question the sincerity of the government as it was still firm in its stand for a fresh CBI probe, which alone could help unravel the high level conspiracy involved in the gruesome murder in which a few leaders of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) are convicted for plotting the killing, he told reporters at the government guest house here on Tuesday.
Even the Leader of Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, himself had called for instituting a CBI probe to expose allegations on the sources of foreign funds reportedly received by a few jailed convicts involved in the T.P. murder case, he said.
Stating that truth should prevail, Mr. Sudheeran said a fresh probe alone would instill confidence in the rule of law and the government would make further efforts to impress upon the CBI to accede to its demand.
On the observation of Rema, widow of the slain RMP leader, that there is every reason to doubt government's sincerity in its endeavour to broaden the probe ambit, the KPCC leader said that she is bound to say so as every one could gauge the pulse and feeling of the aggrieved woman.
‘UDF has upper hand’
On the poll prospects of the UDF in the State, Mr. Sudhderan, who had been on a campaigning spree across the State, said that the electioneering is going on in full swing and the public mood suggested upper hand for the UDF as the people would reject the CPI(M) for deviating from its known stance and policies and are averse to its politics of violence, Mr. Sudheeran, who was here to campaign for UDF nominee in the Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency T. Siddique said.
