CBI probe only after considering all aspects: Chandy

September 10, 2012 08:37 pm | Updated June 28, 2016 11:34 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Monday that a decision on a CBI probe into the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P. Chandrasekharan would be taken only after examining all aspects of the issue.

The Chief Minister told the media that the CPI(M) Polit Bureau’s opposition to a CBI probe was an endorsement of the investigation by the Kerala Police into the murder. “The party has been alleging political motives behind the investigation. So the rejection of CBI probe amounts to a clean chit for the Kerala Police.”

Though the CPI (M) had alleged police torture of the accused, it could produce no concrete proof. The government had declared that it would not persecute anyone for political reasons.

Mr. Chandy said that what would emerge new at the Emerging Kerala meet was to be seen. However, Kerala was going to see that the concerns and doubts expressed over the meet were unfounded. He hoped that all including the Opposition would cooperate with the initiative.
