The roadside Pieta shrine attached to the Holy Cross parish church in the Anglo Indian enclave of Tangasseri in Kollam was found to be desecrated by vandals early Tuesday morning.

One of the posters pasted inside the shrine said the Bishop Jerome Nagar commercial complex, a shopping mall of the Kollam diocese, will be attacked with bombs. Other posters contained derogatory language against clergy. Printouts of Mata Amritanandamayi containing her messages and photos were also pasted there.

Escalating tension

A strong police posse has been deployed in front of the shrine. Police said a dog squad and finger print experts will be brought to the scene of the crime as part of the investigations.

The Kollam West Police have registered a case.
