A case was filed against former High Court judge R. Basant at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Tirur on Wednesday alleging indecent representation of the Suryanelli rape victim in public.

All India Youth Federation (AIFY) State committee member and Communist Party of India district committee member K. Baburaj filed the criminal case against Mr. Basant by invoking provisions of the Indecent Representation of Woman Prohibition Act, 1986 and IPC Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Mr. Baburaj filed the case through his counsel Dinesh Pookayil. Judicial First Class Magistrate M.P. Jayaraj posted the case for February 27 for hearing.

Mr. Basant, during a personal conversation with a television channel reporter at Thunchan Parambu recently, was caught on hidden camera as saying that the Suryanelli girl had been deviant, and, therefore, used for child prostitution.
