Case against American evangelists

September 27, 2013 03:36 am | Updated June 02, 2016 03:32 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Town police here on Thursday slapped a case on two US-based evangelists who allegedly violated visa norms by speaking at a Christian congregation at Tagore Centenary Hall on Wednesday.

The police said that David Lowell Grand and Dwight Loren Surrah were charged with Section 3 (2) (e) (7), read with Section 14 (b), of the Registration of Foreigners Act. They arrived in the country on a tourist visa a couple of days ago and they had not been permitted to speak at a public gathering.

K.R. Premachandran, Assistant Commissioner of Police (South), said the evangelists had reportedly delivered the speeches at a programme organised by the South Indian Assemblies of God. They were found missing after the programme.

The police have launched a manhunt for them. Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo spoke about their experiences and took part in an executive meeting of the South Indian Assemblies of God, the police said.
