Case against Sudhakaran for ‘instigating bogus voting’ in Assembly polls

A court here has registered a case against K. Sudhakaran, Congress nominee from Uduma segment, following a complaint that the senior Congress leader during the campaigning for the Assembly polls, had “instigated” party men to resort to bogus voting.

The case was registered by the Bekal police as per directions issued by the Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here on complaints filed by CPI(M) nominee from Uduma K. Kunhiraman.

Mr. Sudhakaran’s purported call to “resort to bogus voting” was made at a booth-level “Kudumba Sadas” held at the residence of a party worker at Koilachi near Kalanad as the video clippings of Mr. Sudhakaran’s remarks went viral in leading social media network after a “party loyalist” recorded the footage, triggering controversy during the electioneering.

Mr. Kunhiraman, the sitting MLA from the segment after learning about the controversial remarks, swung into action and lodged complaint with the Bekal police station, which, however, refused to register the complaint.

Mr. Kunhiraman later approached the court seeking legal action against his Congress rival and the court eventually directed the police to register a case against Mr. Sudhakaran. However, Mr. Sudhakaran had maintained that he had exhorted his party men only to frustrate any moves by the LDF to indulge in gross bogus voting tactics in the constituency, which had witnessed one of the spirited campaigns to unseat the traditional Left supremacy. Reacting to the fresh development, Mr. Sudhakaran maintained that the foisting of the case was “politically motivated” and he would face the case legally.
