The Thiruvananthapuram Principal Sessions Court has awarded capital punishment to Nino Mathew, a techie who was the convicted in the twin murder of his paramour's mother-in-law and infant child on April 16, 2014.
The Principal Sessions Judge V. Shircy also sentenced Anushanthi, Nino Mathew's colleague and paramour and the second accused in the case, to life imprisonment and imposed Rs. 50 lakh each as fine on the two. The Court handed down the sentence accepting the prosecution's contention that the case fell in the 'rarest of rare' category.
The prosecution case was that Nino Mathew, colleague of Anushanthi in a Technopark company here, had killed Anushanthi's mother-in-law Vijayamma (58) and her three-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter at their home, based on detailed information provided by Anushanthi about the lay out of the home and escape routes.
Before killing Anushanthi's mother-in-law, Nino Mathew got her to summon Anushanthi's husband Lijeesh, an assistant engineer with the KSEB Limited, home. Nino Mathew, who hid behind the front door, tried to hack him as well, but failed in his attempt. Lijeesh was the prime witness in the case, the prosecution said.
