More cancer-affected children will henceforth benefit from the Balasanthwanam scheme of the State government.

This follows a government order amending guidelines for the project, formulated for providing financial aid to children having cancer.

Besides children seeking treatment at Regional Cancer Centre, financial aid will also be extended to children reaching Malabar Cancer Centre, various General Hospitals, Government Medical College Hospitals, and recognised cooperative medical colleges.

Increase in aid

The amount too has been increased from ₹5,000 to ₹10,00.

The project has also been renamed as ‘Chief Minister’s relief fund – Balasanthwanam.’

Those who contribute to the scheme will be eligible for tax relief. The Finance Secretary has been appointed the controlling officer of the project.
