A workshop on garbage disposal, organised by the Kollam city Corporation on Friday, called upon the people of the city to drop the habit of using plastic disposable glasses and instead use steel tumblers for drinking purposes.

A resolution adopted at the workshop pointed out that a steel tumbler could be washed and used more than five lakh times so that the use of one such glass could reduce the use of 5 lakh plastic glasses.

Clean city drive

The workshop inaugurated by Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty Amma was organised as part of the “keep the city clean drive” launched by the city Corporation.

The workshop said a negligent presence of vectors was one of the prime indicators of an area development graph.

Therefore every citizen of the city should play a contributory role in preventing the breeding of vectors by keep the city clean.

Growing habit

The growing habit to wantonly dispose of garbage anywhere and everywhere should be brought down. People should start cultivating an aversion for plastic carry bags.

At the function, M. Noushad MLA declared the city Corporation headquarters complex as a plastic free zone. Mayor V. Rajendrababu presided.
