Call to reintroduce art teachers in schools

March 11, 2013 04:49 am | Updated 04:49 am IST - KOLLAM:

A State convention of the Adhyapaka Kala Sahithi held here on Saturday called upon the State government to make study of arts compulsory in schools and reintroduce the posts of arts teachers.

A statement in this connection said since job opportunities for those who passed out from music and fine arts college were poor, reintroduction of the posts of arts teachers at school could create openings for them.

Through such a measure, students with talents in fine arts and music could be identified and promoted.

New office bearers

The State convention elected K. Devaki as State president and Kureepuzha Francis as general secretary of the Adhyapaka Kalasahithi.

The other office bearers are Wilson Peelikode and D. Sudheendra Babu, vice presidents, Jayan Neeleshwaram and K. Raju Sreevalsam, secretaries, and A. Shobitha, treasurer.
