A seminar on gender diversity organised by the women cell of P.T.M. Government College, Perinthalmanna, underscored the need for society to change its prejudices against transgender people.

Inaugurating the seminar on Thursday, rights activist Sheetal Shyam said that the exploitation of transgender people had increased greatly in recent years. Interacting with the students about the rights of different groups, she condemned the increasing violence against transgender people.

Jameel Ahmed, assistant professor of Malayalam, delivered the keynote address. P. Aboobacker, principal-in-charge; T. Shemeera Kunhu, women cell convener; P. Nisha, faculty member; and V. Thapasya, student secretary, spoke. — Staff Reporter
